Lo streaming live di videogames fa ormai parte del nostro quotidiano e ci permette di confrontarci con tantissime realtà diverse tra di loro per qualità, divertimento e cultura. Talvolta ci imbattiamo in personalità capaci di sorprenderci per la loro attitudine verso un particolare titolo o in generale per il modo in cui intrattengono il proprio pubblico.
Paul alias Pestily per chi lo segue su Twitch, è un videogiocatore e amante degli sparatutto in prima persona che da molti mesi a questa parte si è concentrato su un titolo che abbiamo più volte esaminato: Escape from Tarkov. Attualmente Paul vive in Australia, ha servito l’esercito australiano come fuciliere per otto anni e successivamente ha lavorato come vigile del fuoco. Nel 2018 ha deciso di impegnarsi full-time come content creator su Twitch e Youtube, riuscendo a raccogliere più di 25.000 dollari in beneficenza per la fondazione infantile Starlight.

How come this change? - Sappiamo che Counter Strike ti ha reso molto abile negli FPS competitivi online e che al momento ti stai concentrando su Escape from Tarkov. Cosa ti ha spinto a questa nuova scelta?
Originally I started out playing a lot of Half Life online with becoming one of the best in Australia and this was the first game I was very passionate about. From there I moved into games like CS 1.6 / CS Source / CS-GO but not really into a competitive nature due to the fact that World of Warcraft become on obsession of mine (much like Tarkov). I think the main attraction to Escape From Tarkov has been the fact that its very layered in its skill and isn't just a simple click head kind of game. - Inizialmente ho giocato parecchio ad Half Life online, diventando il migliore in Australia e questo è stato il primo gioco che mi ha appassionato molto. Game knowledge is more important than anything else in EFT (Escape from Tarkov). Knowing where an angle that works, which ammo to use and when you should commit or not all comes from countless hours of practice and perfecting your craft. I try not to always do the same thing which also increases the broad knowledge of my game skills. - La conoscenza di gioco è più importante di qualsiasi altra cosa in EFT (Escape from Tarkov). Sapere quale angolo sfruttare, che munizioni usare e quando ingaggiare o meno deriva da innumerevoli ore di pratica e di perfezionamento delle abilità. What would you say to someone that is suffering from gear fear? - Quale consiglio vuoi dare a chi ha il terrore di perdere l’equipaggiamento nei raid (gear fear)?
Gear fear is countered by knowing how much you can afford to lose and how to replenish your loses. I always tell someone to learn a way to make money in EFT so that when they lose gear they know they can always go and make more money to get more. - Il gear fear può essere ben gestito sapendo quanto puoi permetterti di perdere e come ripristinare le tue perdite. Suggerisco sempre di imparare un modo di fare soldi su EFT così quando si perde l'equipaggiamento è sempre possibile acquistarne uno nuovo.
Escape from Tarkov isn't a forgiving game. Even while playing with a squad, gamers have to pay attention to friendly fire and their mates' physical position. Is it due these reasons that you always play by youself during your streams? - Escape from Tarkov non è un gioco che perdona sotto molti punti di vista, persino quando si è in squadra bisogna prestare attenzione al fuoco amico ed alla posizione fisica dei compagni. E’ per questo motivo che durante le dirette giochi sempre da solo?
The main reason I play solo on stream is I can't focus on my chat and talking to a team mate. I think one of the major factors my stream is so successful is I spend more time talking to my chat and involving them as much as possible rather than focusing on the game play itself. - La principale ragione per la quale gioco in singolo durante i miei stream è perchè non riuscirei a concentrarmi sulla chat e parlare ad un compagno. Penso che uno dei fattori che rende le mie live così di successo è che trascorro più tempo parlando con la mia chat e la coinvolgo il più possibile piuttosto che concentrarmi sul gioco.
Which was the hardest mission given you by the NPCs? - Tra le missioni affidate dagli NPC, qual è stata per te la più ardua da affrontare?
I really don't like "decontamination" by Therapist. Going into Interchange wearing a 3m armor to kill scavs is never an enjoyable experience. But I wish tasks like the grenade kills and night time kills were available earlier because they can become really tedious. Also "Setup" on customs can be really annoying at times. - "Decontamination" data dalla Therapist non mi piace per nulla. What was the most difficult ingame objective that you wanted to achieve during a stream? - Qual è stato, invece, l’obiettivo ingame più arduo che ti sei prefissato durante una diretta?
Getting from 1 - 40 in a single stream the first time was very difficult. It took many hours of practice and learning strategies to make it happen. It is now much easier with the flea market as I did it before there was one and it took me a total of 37 hours 40 minutes with 18 of the last hours just farming Factory for XP. Brutal. - Passare da 1 a 40 in un singolo stream per la prima volta è stato molto difficile. Ci sono volute molte ore di pratica e ho dovuto imparare delle strategie per riuscirci. Adesso è molto più facile con il flea market. Avendolo fatto prima della sua esistenza mi ci sono volute un totale di 37 ore e 40 minuti, 18 delle quali passate farmando XP su Factory. Brutale.
In Escape from Tarkov weapon customization is a very detailed mechanic and important for survival. Do you invest a lot of time preparing your equipment? - In Escape from Tarkov la personalizzazione delle armi è una meccanica di gioco molto curata ed importante ai fini della sopravvivenza. Not anymore. I use to love modding out my guns and having really cool or "meta" guns but now I like the challenge of going in with a stock gun with a sight and seeing which guns I can find on the dead bodies of the PMC's I kill. Then I use their modded out expensive guns ;) - Non più. Early game either the Zhuk Press armor or 6B23 with a SSH68 helmet is easily the best budget loadout you can go. Late game if you have the money either the Slick or Gen4 assault armor with whatever helmet you prefer which for me is usually the Altyn. It's really a balance of what you want to achieve from the raid and how much you are willing to spend. - Nelle fasi iniziali del gioco l'armatura Zhuk Press o il 6B23 con un elmetto SSH68 sono l'equipaggiamento più economico da prendere. Più avanti nel gioco, se si ha adeguata disponibilità di denaro, direi che Slick o l'armatura d'assalto Gen4 vanno bene con qualsiasi elmetto, il mio preferito è l'Altyn. Si riduce tutto a cosa volete ottenere dal raid e quanto siete disposti a spendere.
Which is the weapon you absolutely need? - A quale arma non puoi assolutamente rinunciare?
I would love to see a 45-70 Govt Lever action added to the game (if this is the question) but usually my go to gun in EFT has been the AK 5.45 variants of recent. I find them fun and not boring like the AS VAL / VSS meta we see so much of. - Mi piacerebbe che aggiungessero una 45-70 Govt Lever action (se è questo quello che mi stai domandando), ma le pistole che uso di solito in EFT sono le varianti dell'AK 5.45 che sono state aggiunte di recente. Terralabs is the most challenge due to the majority of players going in fully geared and the added difficulty of the raiders. Also many people don't like going in solo so you see a lot of duos / trios. - La mappa Terralabs è la più impegnativa a causa dei giocatori pesantemente equipaggiati e dalla presenza dei raiders. C'è anche da dire che a molte persone non piace andare in solo, infatti si notano molti gruppi da due e da tre.
Would you suggest the "offiline" mode to new players or do you believe it is better to try the online first? Which of these options did you choose when you first played the game? - Consiglieresti la modalità “offline” ai nuovi giocatori oppure credi che sia meglio buttarsi subito negli scontri online? Tra queste due opzioni quale hai scelto la prima volta che hai avviato Escape from Tarkov?
I think early on I went offline mode to learn where the extracts were but after that I never really played offline mode except for testing / recording purposes. I do suggest every time someone wants to learn a new map they use offline mode to explore the extracts. It'll save a lot of heartache. - Direi che all'inizio ho sperimentato l'offline per imparare dove si trovassero i punti di estrazione, ma oltre a quello non ci ho veramente giocato, se non per testare e per registrare. Suggerisco sempre l'offline quando si vuole imparare una mappa e conoscere i punti di estrazione. Questp tipo di strategia evita un sacco di infarti.

There has been many enjoyable moments but I think one of the funniest would be playing with my mouse and keyboard on top of a microwave because we hit 40,000 viewers during the drops event over Christmas. I'm always working on different ways to learn how to level. I still don't think i've mastered it yet due to all the changes they keep making to tasks and skills but levelling isn't easy and I think it deters a lot of players. They find the tasks hard and not worth their time. - Sono sempre impegnato a imparare tecniche diverse per livellare, infatti non credo di aver ancora padroneggiato la cosa. Ciò anche perchè continuano a modificare gli incarichi e le skill. Livellare non è facile e credo che ciò scoraggi molti giocatori, perchè lo trovano difficile e non vogliono perderci tempo.
Can Escape from Tarkov be considered an elite game for hardcore gamers? - Escape from Tarkov può essere considerato un gioco di nicchia per giocatori hardcore?
I think Battlestate Games have gone out of their way to make sure their game is in their vision and unique to what they want to do. For that reason I would say EFT is a elite game for its time. Most publishers are out there to just make $$$ but its obvious that Nikita and the team at BSG just want to make their game. - Credo che Battlestate Games abbia fatto di tutto per essere sicura che il loro gioco rientri nella loro visione ed unicità secondo le loro aspettative. Per questa ragione dico che EFT sia un gioco di nicchia. Molti produttori sono solo pronti a guadagnare un sacco di soldi, ma è ovvio che Nikita e il team di BSG hanno il loro interesse rivolto solo al gioco.
According to you, does Escape from Tarkov have any games of the same genre that match its level? - Dal tuo personale punto di vista Escape from Tarkov, attualmente, ha titoli rivali dello stesso genere?
I don't believe any game within the same Genre matches its level but it certainly has the complexity of games like Path of Exile and Eve Online which are games I was both very passionate about. - Non credo che nessun gioco dello stesso genere raggiunga il suo livello, ma certamente ha la stessa difficoltà di altri giochi come Path of Exile e Eve Online, che mi sono piaciuti davvero molto.

I use to be very excited for the Arena to be added to the game but I think for me now it's going to be the Clan / Alliance / Corporation. I think as a content base it'll add hours of fun and enjoyment through working together to build up a clan hideout (if they go down that path) and also declaring war on other people will be fun in itself. - All'inizio non vedevo l'ora che aggiungessero l'Arena, ma adesso mi ispirano di più i Clan / Alliance / Corporation. I wanted to be a fire fighter growing up but wasn't able to initially so I joined the Army for 8 years. I joined because I wanted to help people. I went to the last two PAX Australia's and recently went to PAX East. I do but generally not Tarkov streamers. I usually like to hang out in creative streams where people play music or have a very chill vibe. If you are into Tarkov content I highly suggest checking out other "The Team" members being Veritas, Slushpuppy, Sigma, Anton and Ghostfreak66. Between the entire group there is someone for everyone. Being my own boss is nice however I put a lot of pressure on myself to always do my best which may not be the most healthy thing. Hang out in a twitch stream that has 3-15 viewers that looks like they know what they are talking about and ask them every single question you could think of. You'll make their day and you'll learn a lot. Once you get into the game there are many guides out there. Try and take notice of the date that they were published as some are very dated however I try to keep my "New players playlist" updated for the current state of the game as well as my "raid series" has been very helpful for a lot of people. - Conviene seguire un canale che abbia sui 3-15 spettatori con persone che sembrino avere una buona conoscenza del gioco e domandare qualsiasi cosa passi per la mente.
